Pronunciation and morphology notes
Standalone vingt is pronounced [vɛ̃] with a silent -gt, but the final t comes back from 21 to 29 (vingt-deux [vɛ̃t.dø]) and in liaison before a vowel (vingt ans, vingt euros). Vingt takes a plural -s only in quatre-vingts (80), where it is four twenties and nothing follows; the -s disappears again the moment another number is added (quatre-vingt-un). At 21 the number takes the "et" connector: vingt et un.
