Numbers 1 to 50 in French

From 17 to 50 the morphology is regular. Compound teens (17 to 19), then vingt, trente, quarante, cinquante each introducing the et-un connector on the unit 1 and hyphenated units 2 through 9. The first range where French is well behaved.

Are there any irregular numbers between 1 and 50?

No. Once you get past the Latin-inherited teens 11 to 16, the range from 17 to 50 follows a regular pattern: compound forms 17 to 19, vingt as base for 20 to 29, trente for 30 to 39, quarante for 40 to 49. Trouble only starts at 70 with the vigesimal soixante-dix.

How do you say 41 in French?

Quarante et un. Same et connector pattern as 21 (vingt et un) and 31 (trente et un). With the 1990 rectifications you can also write quarante-et-un with hyphens; both forms are accepted.

Is cinquante or quinze the word for 50?

Cinquante is 50 (the tens word). Quinze is 15 (one of the Latin-inherited teens). They share the cinq root but are not interchangeable.
